I’ve come to the conclusion I have the attention span of a mosquito! When I’m doing something, I’m TOTALLY into it, but when I’m forced to break for whatever reason (going to the bathroom, letting the dogs out, reading an email, whatever…) I’m so easily distracted!

For those that don’t know, I’m a chronic pain sufferer and as a result I’ve really let things slip over the past couple of years with my internet ventures! I finally splurged and replaced my old laptop so that I could work lying down on the couch and decided to get to work updated my Cafepress shop to start with, then moving on to my website when I was finished. Well…I am soooo far behind on everything that it will take me almost literally forever just to get the shop done, and as I work there’s that distraction thing going on….so far in the last couple of weeks I started this blog, updated my Squidoo lens, started a Facebook profile, MySpace profile, uploaded art to Cafepress, Imagekind, Fine Art America, and Zazzle. Oh! And I also opened a Printfection shop…I’m sure I’m leaving something out, but those are the high points of my buzzing about. This does NOT count fun stuff like emails, searching for photos to do art from, visiting newsgroups, redoing old artwork, hooking up old almost dead hard drives to try and retrieve some of my long lost, gone forever (sigh) artwork, working out on my Wii board, cooking for Rog, letting the dogs out, feeding them, giving them attention so that they don’t feel TOTALLY neglected, etc. etc.

Now, I realize that all of those things are productive, but again, the focus is supposed to be updating the CafePress shop, and then moving onto my website. Now I’d like to blame at least a portion of my short attention span on the pain meds I take, but then I’ve always been like that. My sister (bless her soul suffers from the same malady!) says it’s adult A.D.D., which certainly seems possible, but the last thing I need is another DRUG to take! LOL! I sent a newsletter out for the CafePress shop subscribers letting them know that I was lowing prices due to the strained economy, and reworking the site so I have to get BUSY!! I have almost 400 designs in the shop, and each section needs products added (I haven’t touched some of the sections since I opened the shop in 2003!), rearranged, prices changed, and while I’m at it I’m reworking some of the old designs to better fit the dark apparel.  When I started they didn’t accept transparent images, and now it’s almost a MUST! There are those designs once again I can’t rework because they were lost to hard drive crashes (hence the hooking up of the old drives). Maybe I should concentrate on one thing at a time like changing prices one day, then going back and adding products the next, etc. I tend to become overwhelmed with trying to do everything at one time until the task seems impossible and then..wait a minute….I get DISTRACTED and move on to something else!!!! Maybe that’s it!!! I need to focus on one task at a time and stop trying to do it all at once and getting nothing finished!

Advice is welcome…I could use it. A few prayers wouldn’t hurt either. In any case, make me feel better by checking out some of the things I’ve been working on. All the links in this post open in a new window so you can look around while reading the post. I’ve always wanted to start a blog, but felt like no one would ever be interested in anything I have to say….whatcha think??

Till next time,

Patti

P.S. Oh, and I have at least 5 new, good books sitting on my bookshelf I’m dying to read…sigh…

One Comment to “A Designer’s Work is Never Done”

  1. I found your blog to be very interesting, informative, and (insightful as far as people with ADD goes).
Yes it’s me….the sister with the same problem.
Luckily for me though I don’t have half as many things going on right now as you Patti. Bless your soul!
I will keep you in my prayers to find the concentration to be able to achieve one goal at a time! I have found one thing that does help me is to make a to do list, tape it up on my computer, and check things off as I get them done.
This not only helps me to see what needs to be done, I can prioritize, and check things off as they are completed so I get the satisfaction of seeing what I (have) accomplished.
I’ve checked out all the great things you are updating and doing, and now I too have added to my list! Thank you sister ;-)

    May God Bless You!

    Marlene
